Hi Phil, I'm Summer from Michigan! I first heard the Carpenters in 1973 when I was 9, and it was instant love!

Thanks Robin and Summer that's very kind, I first heard the carpenters when I was 12 when they released Close to you, I fell in love with Karen's voice, well how could anyone not love that voice? And it was so different to the other stuff which was around at that time.

Boy could we do with someone like that now, there are so many homogenised singers coming off the production line these days.

Hi Phil, welcome to the forum, it's a great place to talk about all things Carpenters and Karen herself. I sooo agree with your statement, we could use someone like Karen, sometimes I hear some of today's singers on the radio and I think how on earth are they being played and how are they so popular when they don't compare to Karen's voice in the least. I also hate the runs that most of today's singers use in everything they sing.

I fully agree we have just had another clone fall off the production line this last weekend
from the final of X-factor which if you don't know is one of Simon Cowell's inventions (I am sure that you know the format of these things) the girls name is Alexandra Burke, to me she sounds just like many others I can think of.
