Favorite Richard Carpenter Song During Sol...

suspendedIngaffa's Photo suspendedIngaffa 26 Aug 2008

I really like 'Christmas Turned Blue' - co-written with John Bettis - so it's not really 'all Richard' but y'know what I mean. headphones.gif

Currently "Together at Christmas Again".

I'd like to listen to "Yesterday Once More" more on this July TV program.

I'd really love to listen to "Merry Christmas, Darling" new arrangement that Mr. Pooler mentioned a few years ago.

Mine would probably be 'I'm Still Not Over You' or 'Calling Your Name Again'. Talking of Christmas solo songs, I also love Richard's version of 'An Old Fashioned Christmas' from 1984.

The only songs that I have are Something In Your Eyes and Karen's Theme. I have been looking for Time for years and have not been able to find it, well at a price that I'm willing to pay. Never heard Together at Christmas Again. Is that suppose to be on Richard's long awaited Christmas cd? Are Together at Christmas Again and Christmas Turned Blue the same song?

The Ultimate Collection from Holland has Karen's and Richard's solo songs. "When Time Was All We Had", "Calling Your Name Again"....

"Together...." was to be on Rihcard's Christmas album. Written with Pamela Oland(SP?). Richard and Pamela wrote seven songs or so for the Christmas album.

"Christmas Turned Blue" is another song. Seiko recorded this song and "December Morn".

Richard played the piano some from either song for British listeners, I think. Richard sang "Together...." at CPAC Center and for Japanese liteners before.

Not Seiko, but another Japanese singer sometimes sings Carpenters song, she was co-hosted award show and did interview before. Richard got the award and played "I Need To Be In Love" in the middle of '90s.
Hikaru Nishida sings "Top of the World"

I don't buy but she wrote something about Carpenters or Karen in her book. I read it in sample at Amazon.co.jp.

'Something In Your Eyes' and 'Calling Yor Name Again' are two of my most favourite songs ever biggrin.gif
I only have the 'Time' album on LP, I wish the CD wasn't out of print. SO glad the Ultimate Collection included some of them smile.gif
Stephen, I never realised the song 'Old Fashioned Christmas' was recorded in 1984 ohmy.gif I always thought it must have been recorded in 78 and just not released. I'm sure I must've read those 'Christmas Collection' liner notes loads too... How dumb am I?! blush.gif

My two favourite tracks from Richard's solo album are the Dusty Springfield and Dionne Warwick tracks.

I think a lot of what's on that album was recorded in 1983/1984. Richard looked at what was left, and really when you count them, all he had was 7 Karen lead vocals. One was from 1974 anyway. Side 1 only features Karen on TWO tracks! ohmy.gif . I think everything in red was recorded after Karen's death. All the instrumental medleys did was to pad it out enough to make a full album a viable option.

1. It Came Upon a Midnight Clear
2. Overture

3. An Old-Fashioned Christmas

4. O Holy Night

5. (There's No Place Like) Home for the Holidays
6. Medley:
(Here Comes Santa Claus/ Frosty the Snowman/ Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer/ Good King Wenceslas)
7. Little Altar Boy

8. Do You Hear What I Hear?
9. My Favorite Things

10. He Came Here for Me
11. Santa Claus Is Comin' to Town
12. What Are You Doing New Year's Eve?
13. Selections from "The Nutcracker"

14. I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day

Wow...
Aw, I wish Karen had been able to sing 'O Holy Night', it'd have been amazing. I mean, I love the instrumentals anyway, but y'know..
